Table of Contents
1. Mild November Weather in Italy
In November, Italy is well into the transition to fall. Temperatures usually range from 35-65°F (2-18°C). However, keep in mind that the weather can vary depending on where you are. The northern regions like Milan and Venice might be cooler compared to the southern gems like Positano and Sicily. During our travels to Rome, Positano, Florence, and Como, we noticed that each place had its own distinct temperature, sometimes even varying by 10-20°F. Also, remember that the temperature can differ depending on if you are visiting at the beginning or the end of the month. For instance, on November 1st 2022, Rome saw a high of 73°F (23°C) and on November 30th the high was 54°F (12°C).
2. Embrace Rainy Days in Italy
Rain might be your companion during your Italy adventure in November, so be prepared. Don’t worry, though – it won’t rain every day. During our two-week journey, we experienced rain on 2-3 days in total. We loved these Colombia Packable Rain Jackets that we purchased before this trip! They fold down into themselves and zip into little balls! They fit perfectly into our backpack and were there when we needed them!
3. Daylight Hours and Early Sunsets
November offers around 9-10 hours of daylight in Italy. Be aware that the sun tends to set before 5pm each day. It might take a bit of getting used to, but getting up early is a good idea if you want to make the most of the daylight hours. That being said, there’s still plenty of magic to experience, like the Christmas Markets we visited in Florence and Como (#9 on the list).
4. Cloudy Skies and Changing Views
During our trip, especially as we ventured further north, we encountered cloudy skies on about half of our journey. So, be ready for changing leaves and embrace the unique beauty that comes with the cozy fall weather.
5. Dress In Layers
With temperatures ranging from just above freezing to reaching the 70s, layering is key. Remember, many restaurants have outdoor seating, even during colder months. We had outdoor meals in Como under heat lamps at 40-degree temps! A puffer jacket that can be compressed into a small ball is your best friend.

7. Explore Italy’s Sights without the Crowds
The off-season in November means you can enjoy Italy’s main attractions without the usual crowds. We had a blast wandering around the Roman Forum, practically having the place to ourselves. Plus, we visited the Vatican without a reservation – the line was much more manageable compared to peak season.
See below for some of the most popular experiences in Italy that you can enjoy with off-season crowds:
8. Shop Black Friday Deals
Believe it or not, Black Friday isn’t just an American thing. You’ll find plenty of Black Friday sales across Italy. We stumbled upon some fantastic deals in Florence, and many sales continue for a few days, even in fashion-forward Milan.
9. Experience Italy’s Christmas Markets
Late November leading into December is when you can soak in the holiday magic of Italian Christmas Markets. These festive markets are held in many cities, including Florence and Como. Check out this post where go into more details on Florence’s Christmas Markets.
10. Discover Italy Through Indoor Activities: Cooking Classes, Museums, and of course… wine.
Indoor activities are a great option during colder weather. Italy is known for it’s world renowned Museums and Cathedrals. On our trip we visited the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Basilica in Rome. We did a pasta making class while in Rome and had an amazing time making Pizza and Gelato in Florence – educational and delicious! And hey, when in Italy, drink lots of wine – it’s sure to keep you nice and warm.
So there you have it, a fantastic checklist for your unforgettable Italian journey in November. From unpredictable weather to cozy Christmas markets, November offers a unique Italian experience that’s definitely worth exploring. Have an amazing time making memories in this beautiful country! 🇮🇹✨
