When we began planning our European honeymoon, I tasked my husband with researching the places we would visit and what he wanted to experience. His excitement was contagious as he shared the places he couldn’t miss in Paris. One of these treasures was the Le Champ de Mars restaurant, nestled by the Eiffel Tower, which we decided to experience for dinner.
Indulging in Parisian Cuisine
Le Champ de Mars is not your budget-friendly dining spot. As part of our three-week honeymoon, we decided to indulge ourselves with a few upscale meals. This dinner cost us around $130, a splurge for us, but given the occasion, it felt right.
Starting off, we ordered drinks – a bottle of evian water and flavorful alcoholic beverages. Paying for water was a common practice throughout our trip, and we didn’t mind, as quality filtered water suited our preferences. I chose a “Royal Mojito” while Jon opted for a classic French beer, and both were delightful.
A Culinary Adventure: Escargot and More
Embracing the adventurous spirit of Paris, we dived into a French delicacy – escargot. The waiter’s guidance was necessary as we navigated this unfamiliar dish. The snails, nestled in shells, were accompanied by a handy tool to ensure safe consumption. The pesto-covered escargot paired with the freshest bread left an unforgettable impression. And we were both surprised to find ourselves loving the experience.
Savoring the Main Course
After the successful adventure with escargot, we eagerly awaited our main courses. My choice was chicken, and Jon selected a steak, a strategic decision to sample two distinct flavors. With a diverse menu, selecting dishes was a challenge, but our well-prepared meals justified the struggle. The tender and juicy dishes were a satisfying reward after a day of exploring Paris on foot.
A Sweet Ending: Crêpes for Dessert
Of course, no French culinary journey is complete without dessert. Crêpes were our pick, offering a delightful balance of flavors, not overly sweet, just how we prefer it.
A Promise of Return
Our evening at Le Champ de Mars was nothing short of extraordinary. While it wasn’t the most budget-friendly option, the memories created were worth every penny. If we ever return to Paris, there’s no doubt that Le Champ de Mars will find us once again, ready to savor its offerings.
Bon appétit!
